Ranking the disney princesses
Hello, my dudes!
Today we’ll be ranking the Disney female leads from favorite to least favorite
I
love Lilo, Meg, and Esmeralda but they don’t make the list, unfortunately.
Let the ranking begin!
- Mulan - Nobody can say bad of this movie, from beginning to end it’s a fun-filled, heart-warming story. People try to say that it doesn’t stick to the OG story, but to be frank, why did you expect it to. Mulan follows its title character as she enlists in the army to protect her dad. Not that there’s anything wrong with a romance-driven story, but the love for family is one most people can relate to. Also, Mushu is a comedic legend. Shang is really hot. The soundtrack is so good!! They didn’t have to go that hard for ill make a man out of you… but they did. So, we stan. I was planning on seeing the reboot movie when it came out, but you know miss Rona decided to stay for 5 months, for the record, I don’t think they should have removed comedy, Mushu, and Shang.
- Moana - a lot of lists have Moana at the top, but I like Mulan too much to let that happen. Moana feels very cookie-cutter made. Throw in an I want song, the beautiful opening number, and a feminist lead character. Don’t get me wrong, I love it and I wish Disney had kept making new princesses instead of recycling the old ones. Where you are is in my top 2 favorite openings and Moana and Maui make such a good team, I just fell in love. The movie is magnificent and didn’t have dead parents, so we stan.
- Tiana – what can I say, Tiana had to be top tier, a lot of people call her forgettable and say that it's unfair that the first black princess was a frog for most of the movie. To that I say, you have a fair point but do you really need to see her skin so much? The movie has a black feel to it and is the first Disney movie to really explore black (African American) culture. Prince Naveen is one of the finest Disney princes and ray was a magnificent side character. Tiana was a hardworking woman who only kissed Naveen because she wanted her lifelong dream to come true, heck the fact that she had a lifelong dream that didn’t involve a man is realistic so if you don’t like Tiana, you’re just tasteless tbh.
- Belle – I like belle because I can relate to belle. I mean the animated belle, not the live-action (sorry Emma Watson). Belle’s love story is the most believable (it’s not Stockholm syndrome) and it’s the most magical might I say. Belle gave up her life as she knew it to save her father from the beast. Emma Watson doesn’t do belle well and tried to make her the strong female protagonist ™, it didn’t work... Another bone I have to pick with the live-action is her dress, it was so overly underwhelming, she refused to wear a corset for what exactly. Overall, it’s the most classic movie Disney has made, and I just really like it okay…. we stan.
- Rapunzel – tangled is a wonderful movie (once you decide to ignore the huge age gap). Its fun, exciting, and charming while tackling very real issues. Tangled has an actual example of Stockholm syndrome, the relationship between mother gothel and Rapunzel is toxic, to say the least with mother gothel manipulating her emotionally when she asks for something and brainwashing her into thinking the outside world was dangerous. Eugene is the hottest prince, no competition tbh, his personality is also A +. I love him a lot in the series as well.
- Anna- She’s honestly pretty cute. I haven’t watched frozen 2 but in the first movie, her only flaw really was being naïve. I ship her and Kristoff, so yeah. I mean she was doing the most in frozen and deserves the love from the GP Elsa gets. I think she’s our first ginger princess. So that’s cool, a win for the gingers. (im not counting Ariel because she has tomato red hair).
- Ariel- I used to think Ariel was soo dumb, but like she’s not that dumb. A common misconception is that she gave up her voice and entire life for Eric. That’s not really the point, her breaking point was one her dad destroyed all of the stuff she had collected from shipwrecks. She’s in love with human life, for no good reason, but in love with it nonetheless. Eric is kind of the plus that comes with it. Sidelining a bit, let’s talk about the live-action, I’m excited to see Halle take on the role. She’s gorgeous, she’s black, she has the voice of an angel. (stream ungodly hour) and she’s a great actress. Corona should choke, I want this movie to finally get released.
- Jasmine- so my deal with jasmine is I have no attachment to her like she’s a princess of color, which made me happy as a child but she’s okay, she stands up for herself, doesn’t want to get married to some random man, and liked Aladdin even when he was a common street rat(no offense). I think Naomi Scott did a good job. However, I would like to say that I did not like her outfit for most of the live-action movie. The iconic turquoise matching crop top and pants were robbed and didn’t deserve the disrespect. Was there probably a reasonable explanation? Yes, am I going to look for one? No.
- Cinderella- cinderella gets way too much hate. People seem to forget the actual story and go off this false narrative that she just waited around and didn’t do shit. This is false. Cinderella was literally made a slave in her own home. She didn’t like it of course but there wasn’t anything she could do as I honestly think her stepmother would have killed her if she really had the chance. She bared with it and did as she was told. Then a ball was announced and she said, ‘screw it, I’m going’ so she made a dress with her animal friends and went, she also met somebody and dint know he was a prince btw, then she got a lot of luck and ended up happy. If you want a more articulated explanation bout why cinderella is not a bad character, watch ‘the take’s video on her. The live-action was fine, very visually stunning, and probably my favorite of the live actions visually.
- Pocahontas- her movie is so boring, and sis fell for a white man, a disappointment to the colored sisters out there. but, I can respect that she didn't end up with JS.
- Elsa- Elsa is really cold and sand offish for no reason in the first movie, it pissed my tiny self off. Also, why did she keep her powers a secret from anna when they were both young adults, there was no reason, literally no reason. She also has no character development outside let it go. I just don’t like her very much. I still no 90% of the lyrics from 'let it go' tho.
- Merida- she was relatable to some people but not to me, 11 or so year old me could not care less tbh.
- Aurora- she was my favorite princess as a child, solely because she had a pink dress. There’s nothing to say about her other than that she slept a lot, we have that in common, she’s only higher than snow because of her dress.
- Snow white- I just don’t care, I’m sorry, she’s boring. Yes, she is the original but I can't be bothered to care.
Disclaimer: these are just my opinions, nobody has to agree with them, I'm basically talking to myself anyway, no one's actually reading this.
About Jasmine's outfit, I admit that I really liked it as a kid, but I found out that it's actually quite degrading to the culture for a princess to be wearing such. The clothes that she wears are characteristically what a belly dancer would wear and it's a degrading stereotype - no offense to any belly dancers - adopted by Western people that that is the traditional clothing for Middle Easterners, while it's actually just a costume worn by court dancers. I watched a YouTube video by "Mina Le" in which she went into detail about the accuracy and cultural background of each Disney princess's outfit.
ReplyDeleteJasmine is also highly sexualised in the Aladdin movie franchise, especially in the sequel, I think, and her outfit didn't make it any better.
